  • Environment and Animal Rescue
Start Date: 10/30/2021
End Date: 10/30/2021

Have you ever wanted to learn more about tree identification, planting technique, environmental justice, and, and how to train other people to plant trees? This training will teach you everything you need to know!  The training is free, and includes an online and in-person session. The online session will take most people 2-3 hours, and can be completed from the comfort of your own home. The in-person session will be on Saturday Oct 30th, 9am-1pm in West Salem (map) -- this outdoor session will take your online learning and apply it to the hands-on act of planting. After you complete the two-part training, we count on you to attend 4 planting events on Saturday mornings, Oct-April.

to save your place at Crew Leader Training, space limited.

What about COVID-19?
Friends of Trees continue to take the safety of our volunteers, staff, and greater community very seriously and is using the following precautions:

  • Everyone at our events is required to be fully vaccinated (with the exception of those younger than 12 and anyone severely immunocompromised and not eligible for the vaccine).
  • All volunteers and staff wear a properly fitted mask to the event and through event introductions. After crews split off and are more spread out planting, those who prefer are welcome to remove their masks as long as they can remain 6'+ apart.
  • If you feel unwell within 2 weeks of your event, please cancel your volunteer registration.
  • Please bring your own food and snacks, there will likely not be any shared food or drinks provided by FOT, we hope to return to shared coffee and breakfast snacks as soon as it is safer to do so!
  • FOT is committed to limiting the risk of exposure for our volunteers and staff in every possible way while continuing to prune, plant, and bring people together safely outdoors. For a full list of our Covid-19 protocol, please see our Volunteer FAQ page.

Note on personal transportation: Due to Covid-19, carpooling to planting sites is not recommended with anyone outside of your household, you will need to provide your own transportation (biking and walking are possible at many events!). We are sorry for the burden that this places on many and look forward to encouraging carpooling again when it is safer!
